Garnet for Blast Cleaning
The Opta Minerals Group is one of the largest North American importers, miners and processors of GARNET Abrasives.
Garnet is a semi-precious stone and their natural properties make it an efficient abrasive for blast cleaning applications.
The combination of the high density and physical properties make it perhaps nature’s best abrasive for dry or wet blasting applications.
There are many reasons to consider GARNET for your blasting job:
LOW DUST LEVELS The high density and hardness are the reason for a low breakdown rate. This ensures significantly reduced dust levels, which results in improved operator visibility.
RECYCLABILITY The sub-angular grain shape, hardness and high density are the reasons for a low break-down and low abrasive consumption. This makes it feasible for recycling up to 3 – 5 times without loosing its efficiency.
COST EFFECTIVE The low consumption, increased productivity and recyclability result in significant cost savings per square feet blasted.
NON-TOXIC Garnet is an inert, non-toxic natural mineral and contains less than 0.1% free crystalline silica. Garnet does not cause any health risks and is environmentally friendly.
SUPERIOR SURFACE PROFILE Garnet grains are able to reach deep into the cavities of the metal surface and create a uniform profile that is virtually free of embedment and provides an excellent surface for coating adhesion.
APPLICATIONS: GARNET is potentially suitable for any blasting application to replace silica and slag abrasives. It is an excellent substitute for ferrous abrasives when moisture, containment or abrasive collection is problematical. Garnet is primarily used for blasting steel and aluminum substrates and performs well in “open” blast jobs and blast room facilities with recycling equipment.
We offer a variety of Garnet Abrasives for blast cleaning to meet your needs (see graph below). Ask our representatives for information to find the right product for your blasting job.
